The microscope has the same features but with a variable 4.5V LED cool illumination system (batteries not included).  This alternative illumination system is becoming increasingingly popular because it provides a strong yet variable light source that doesn't produce the heat in the base of the unit that build up with conventional halogen lighting systems.
